2nd District Rover Council Meeting Year 2007

Please be informed that the 2nd Kuching District Rover Council Meeting for the year 2007 shall be organized at the venue stated below;

Venue: Scout HQ, Jalan Batu Lintang

Time: 8:00p.m.

Date: 28/04/2007 (Saturday)

Attire: Full uniform

Scout Centenary Exhibition 2007

Dear brothers and sisters in Rovering,

A Scout exhibition will be organized from 26th May (Saturday) to 27th May 2007 (Sunday) in conjuction with the state Scout Centenary celebration. This exhibition is open to all Scouts and general public.

Venue: Waterfront (In front of the clock tower), Kuching
Date: 26 ~ 27/05/2007
Time: 9:00a.m. ~ 10:00p.m.
Attire: Full uniform

All Scouts / Rovers / Leaders / Commissioners are invited to grace the event. Among the exhibits which will be on display are;

3, Different bagdes and uniforms from different countries
4, Air scouting

The opening ceremony shall be organized at 10:00a.m. on 26th May 2007 where it shall be officiated by the State Council Chairman, YBhg Datuk Matnur Daim. All attendees are requested to present at the venue by 8:30a.m. on 26/05/2007 (Saturday).

Kuching City Indaba 2007

The Indaba 2007 for the Kuching City has been organized sucessfully In Tian Soon (BDC) Seafood Restaurant on 14th April 2007 (Saturday). This event is undertaken by the Kuching City Rover Council and 54 rovers/ leaders / commissioners have attended the said function. Groups which have participated in this event, include;

1st Kuching Scout Group, 5th Kuching Scout Group, 14th Kuching Scout Group, 18th Kuching Scout Group, 34th Kuching Scout Group, 37th Kuching Scout Group, 39th Kuching Scout Group, 40th Kuching Scout Group and 43rd Kuching Scout Group.

7 lucky draw prizes have been given away for the lucky draw winners. In addition to that, a blind folded banana eating competition are thrown in to further amuse the crowds.

Indaba event badges were distributed to all participants. For those who enjoy badge collection, the Indaba 2007 event badges are up for grab and are currently available in BP centre with the limited quantity of 25 pieces only.  So hurry up before they are all sold out.

The Kuching City Rover Council would like to thank all for their participations and supports as well as to express our appreciations towards the organizing committee. Another job well done!

1st X-treme Challenge 2007 (KK) Meeting Tonight (17/04/07)

Emergency Meeting
1st X-treme Challenge 2007 (KK) meeting tonight!!

All interested Rovers from Kuching District, please be informed that, we will be having an emergency meeting tonight (17/4/2007, Tuesday)at 8:00p.m. in scout HQ due to the launching of Air Asia Promotions. We need to confirm the total number of participants and the date for travelling. All confirmed participants are reminded to bring along RM80/- for the booking of air tickets and airport tax payment.

Air Asia promotion is ON, starting from tonight (17/04/2007) at 12:00a.m. until 20/04/2007. We need to finalise all details and schedule tonight for the ticket booking. Hopefully we can get as many free tickets as possible to KK.

Please response if you have any concerns or comments and please confirm your attendance tonight. All information pertaining to this trip will be discussed in the "Kuching City Rover Council - Closed Forum" (Group) in Friendster. Please make sure you join and check up the forum and council’s blog regularly.

Those who are not attending tonight’s meeting or without prior confirmation from you will deem to be not interested in this trip and therefore, we shall not make any reservations for you at the moment. Those of you who are still not sure can always join the meeting tonight and confirm on later dates. Late comers will have to bear the full ticket fare yourself or share with any other late comers later depending on the availability of tickets.

Tonight’s Kuching City Indaba 2007

Kuching City Indaba 2007 gathering shall be organized tonight (14/4/2007) at 6:30p.m. in the 2nd Floor of Tian Soon Seafood Restaurant in BDC (Behind BDC Everise). All participants are reminded to be punctual.

Many activities shall be organized tonight such as DVD shows on previous World Scout Moot and International Korean Patrol Jamboree, Lucky draws with exclusive prizes and exciting games besides the serving of good food with good company of scout leaders.

3rd Asia Pacific Poster Competition - 2007

All scouts from respective National Scout Organization are invited to participate in the 3rd APR Poster Competition during the 22nd APR Scout Conference in Tokyo.

Objective of the competition
To provide opportunities for sharing creative ideas in the promotion of Scouting through existing posters.

Themes
1. Posters promoting Scouting programme.
2. Posters promoting membership growth.
3. Posters promoting a fund raising event.

Message
Each poster must project its message or with a caption relevant to the theme. Wordings could be in any language but a written translation in English shall be attached.

Participants
All NSOs can participate in any or all the 3 thematic areas. However, only one entry is allowed for each theme for a maximum of 3 entries per NSO. Designers of the posters may or may not be Scout members for as long as the posters are made for Scouting Use.

Specifications
Entries may be currently in use at any level - district, province, national - or may be a digital reproduction of old posters, provided these have not won any competition. Every entry must be a printout poster (computer or press printout), not "one-of-a-kind" poster like a painting. Poster size must not be smaller than 25cm x 35cm and not bigger than 50cm x 60cm.

Submission
NSOs should indicate their interest to join the competition using the attached reply slip. All entries are to be submitted by the NSO to the APR secretariat upon the delegation’s arrival at the conference. All entries will be displayed at the exhibit area. Extra copies may be brought as giveaways for interested parties at the conference.

Panel of Judges
Judges will be selected from among the conference participants, ideally from countries (including other regions) not represented in the competition.

Prizes and Awarding
Top 3 posters of each theme will be selected: 3 for 1st place, 3 for 2nd place and 3 for 3rd place. All 9 winners will receive plaques during the awarding ceremony on 23rd October of the Regional Conference. All participating countries will receive certificates of participation. Attached is the REPLY SLIP for participation to be sent back to APR office not later than 31st July 2007.

Where?
PPNBD National Training’s Campsite, National Scout Headquarters, Scout Complex, Jalan Gadong, Brunei Darussalam

When?
24th ~ 29th August 2007 (participants to arrive on 24th August for registration and may leave the campsite on 30th August)

Who?
Rover scouts aged in between 18 ~ 26 years old. Each rover crew shall consist of 8 rover scouts.

Fees?
BND$200.00 (approximately USD$133.00) (To cover accommodation, food, materials, souvenirs, inland transportation between Brunei Darussalam International Airport and the Moot site).

Programme?
Challenge Valley, Community Services, Home Stay, Global Development Village, INDABA, Rover Scout Forum and many more.

Expiring in 5 more days for X-Treme Challenge - Kota Kinabalu 2007 enrollment

As to date, there are 12 confirmed participants for this X-treme Challenge - Kota Kinabalu 2007. A number of fund raising activities will be organized later to subsidize the trip which may lighten the burden of the participants. Tentatively this trip shall be organized in December 2007 in order to encourage participation from Rovers who are having STPM at the end of the year. If you are still interested, please be reminded that the closing date for enrollment is on 15th April 2007 (Sunday). Those who wished to join after the closing date may still do so. However, we may not be able to gurantee the same privilages which are enjoyed by the early birds. The first committee meeting shall be organized after Indaba this coming Saturday. Tentatively next week. Be prepared.

Pioneering Project by Rovers from 40th Kuching

As to fulfill the Rover Training Scheme’s requirements for the pioneering project for the Scout’s Craft badge, 6 Rovers from 40th Kuching Scout Group have built themselves a main gate, a bridge and a tower on 8th April 2007 (Sunday). Later on, the stuctures were inspected by ADC Daniel Siong. Currently rovers from 40th Kuching Scout Group and 39th Kuching Scout Group (Elysium Rovers) were embarking on the Rover Scout Training Scheme and schedule to complete with the award of Rover Rambu Award later this year.

Scout Centenary Celebration

The celebration of Scouting Centenary by the State level has been organized successfully on 1st April 2007 (Sunday) in P. Ramlee Auditorium, RTM Kuching; under the chairmanship of SC Mr. John Lim.

Approximately 600 scouts / rovers / leaders / commissioners have attended the said event.  The ceremony was launched by the Minister of Rural Development & Urbanization, YB Datuk William Mawan Ikom on behalf of the Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. The National Chief Scout Commissioner of Malaysia, YBHG Datuk Kamarudin Kachar and the Chief State Commissioner, YB Datuk Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar were also there to witness the launch. A book on the philosophy of scouting which was written by the Chief State Commissioner, YB Datuk Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was also launched officially.
